Ich habe auch diesen Fehler bekommen. Das Problem ist

 No package 'libffi' found
 c/_cffi_backend.c:13:17: fatal error: ffi.h: No such file or directory

Du solltest das tun:

sudo apt-get install libffi-dev

versuchte das und ich musste libssl-dev auch installieren

Bei einer Neuinstallation von 14.04 musste ich die Pakete python-dev, libffi-dev, libssl-dev, libxml2-dev und libxslt1-dev installieren. Sobald diese installiert waren, pip install scrapyfunktionierte gut.
